Workshops to Cover Change in Local Sales Tax Coding
OLYMPIA, Wash., Sept. 28, 2007 — The Department of Revenue is conducting several free, two-hour workshops to explain how the national Streamlined Sales Tax agreement affects the way retailers collect sales tax on shipped or delivered products.
The agreement, which encourages out-of-state retailers to begin collecting sales tax on sales to Washington customers, requires Washington to begin coding local sales tax to the destination of the shipped product rather than the origin, beginning July 1, 2008.
Workshops will be conducted at all sites from 10 a.m. to noon. Additional afternoon workshops are scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Federal Way and Vancouver. Additional workshops are being added as necessary. Western Washington workshops dates and locations include:
Lynnwood: Oct. 2, Lynnwood Convention Center, Room 1D, 3711 196th Street SW.
Bellevue: Oct. 4, Courtyard by Marriott, Grand Ballroom, 11010 NE 8th St.
Tacoma: Oct. 10, LaQuinta Inn, Evergreen Ballroom, 1425 E 27th Street.
Everett: Oct. 15, Holiday Inn, Ballroom 2, 3105 Pine St.
Federal Way: Oct. 17, LaQuinta Inn, Cascade Ballroom, 32124 25th Ave. S.
Tukwila: Oct. 30, Best Western River’s Edge, 15901 W. Valley Highway.
