President/CEO

In August 1998 Jan joined the Washington Retail Association as their President/CEO and has worked to develop the association into the voice for retailers in Washington State. She has 26 years of experience in association management and strategic political operations.

Jan’s responsibilities include WRA Board strategic planning, facilitating the growth of the organization, fiscal policies and growth, and operational soundness including staff development.

Jan is the official spokesperson to the public and the media.She speaks on a regular basis for civic and business groups on retail specific topics or the political process.Jan testifies before legislative bodies when needed and meets with key elected officials on a regular basis.

Jan is the 2010 CSRA President, the retail executives group, the Council of State Retail Association Executives.Jan is a member of the Washington State Association Executives and the national group, Association of State Association Executives.She is a member of the Northwest Shopping Center Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

In September 2009 Jan was recognized by the South Sound Business Examiner as a "Woman of Influence" for her years of leadership in the business community. Of note was her published book in 1990 called "Building Influence" which won national recognition and her numerous awards during her career for leading business causes.

Jan has served four years on the Board of Directors for the state’s chamber, the Association of Washington Business, and is a member of the Coalition of Washington Business Organizations.

Jan graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1984 with a degree in Communications and Research Methods.She began her career as the Director of Government Affairs for the Olympia Master Builders and went on to hold their Executive Director position before moving to a housing and land use analyst position for the state’s Building Industry Association where she worked with the legislature and various groups on land use matters.After twelve years of service to the building industry, she became the Executive Director for the Lacey Thurston County Chamber of Commerce where she focused her efforts on supporting small business success before moving to the Washington Retail Association three years later.

 

The Washington Retail Association, WRA, is a 501 C 6 trade association formed to advocate for Washington State’s retailers at the local, state and national level. Since 1987, the WRA has protected Washington's retailers from unreasonable taxes, fees, regulations and legislation. The efforts of the WRA benefit all Washington state retailers and help fuel statewide economic growth.
